Bearhunt in Parliament
Thursday, 26 November 2009 11:41

Lord Mawson of Bromley-by-Bow invited Bearhunt to attend the inaugural meeting of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Urban Regeneration, Sport and Culture at The House of Lords.

The opening session focused on the Olympic Legacy. Bearhunt Director Malcolm McClean said "It was good that Hazel Blears MP was present as a representative of ‘The North' and I was able to question Rt Hon Tessa Jowell on local Olympic legacies. Much as we are delighted for London, this is the Great Britain Olympics and the legacy must be felt in the regions and nations".

In particular Bearhunt's role in the Government's myplace investment in creating World class places to go for young people, has shown that this is detached from local legacy initiatives. Malcolm said "We've got to connect these things, they are both once-in-a-lifetime opportunities and we can make 2+2=6 if we think creatively. I'm delighted that the Minister promised to unblock any obstacles to connecting these things up".
